OUR GOAL IS TO CHANGE DUTCH GASTRONOMY

about our movement
Restaurants, chefs and producers shape taste, culture and desire. That comes with responsibility. We believe that by working together across the food chain, we can help develop solutions to some of the complex challenges facing our food systems.
We want Dutch gastronomy to lead the way when it comes to sustainability, inclusion and the future of food. At a time when food security and the sustainability of our food systems are becoming more urgent every day, we believe chefs, farmers, makers and the wider food movement have an important role to play.
Low Food is a platform where ideas come together and turn into practice. We bring people together, start conversations and build projects that help move the food world forward.
We do this through symposiums, the Low Food Chef’s Academy for young talent, and the Low Food Labs, where we research and experiment with ingredients that are new, forgotten, overlooked or undervalued. We are also a partner in the Net Positive Program together with Deloitte Digital.
The Low Food Foundation works in partnership with Food Pioneers, Vermaat and Deloitte Digital.
OUR founding story
In 2019 we organised our first symposium, driven by urgency rather than comfort.
Inspired by Klaus Meyer and the Nordic food movement, we set out to challenge the status quo of Dutch gastronomy — with sustainability not as a trend, but as a compass.
What followed was a deliberate search for the forces shaping our food culture. A culture in constant motion, influenced by histories, migration and global exchange. If food culture is made, who gets to shape it? And how do we make it inclusive by design?
Seven years on, LOWFOOD is a driving force behind the innovation and forward momentum of Dutch gastronomy — pushing boundaries, connecting voices, and turning ideas into action.
